Asian food served in the western countries is much oilier than it
is served in Asia. You don't need to deal with all the
layers of oil like you'll find in most Asian restaurants.
We've collated a nice
selection of delicious, yet healthy lean Asian dishes that you can eat
more than "once a month" as a treat. Less fat, less oil, less sugar and less calories!
Asian food doesn't have to leave you feeling like you've just used
an "oil" mouthwash.
Yum Cha
("drinking tea" and eating small servings of different Asian foods
while sipping some well-brewed tea) can be a healthy mid-morning -
lunchtime lean Asian food dining experience. You can still enjoy
this delicious menu because many dishes from the selection offered
are steamed or boiled including dumplings, dim sums, steamed pork
buns, shrimp rolls and many others, rather than deep fried like
spring rolls and some dumplings.
To reiterate, steamed
yum cha portions generally have a small number of calories
in them (steaming can help remove some of the fat) and are still
very delicious!
Just remember, when
cooking lean Asian food, use lean beef, pork,
chicken, duck or any other meat you'd like to use. Cut off the
excess fat before cooking and where you can, steam rather than
fry. Instead of using oil while cooking the meat in the
beginning of stir-frying your lean Asian food, try using little to
no oil at the start - you'll notice the soy and oyster sauce you
add will do a similar effect.
