Dessert - the sweetest course of a meal. Unfortunately, for
people dieting, they feel they must resist and refuse the
temptations of those sweet, rich, delicious desserts after a main
course. This isn't always the case. Many restaurants
these days like to accommodate to those of us who require gluten
free, dairy free and in some cases less sugar and fat.
Many gluten free and dairy free desserts are healthily created
ideally for the dieter as well. However, if you're looking
to make your own desserts and still have a healthy tinge to it, we
can help you out!
A
helpful hint often overlooked when it comes to garnishing desserts
is using light powders and artificial sweetener powders rather
than full blown icing and cream. Dust a little cocoa powder
instead of using icing sugar - it's still sweet, but not as many
calories! Using partially frozen skim milk and whipping it
up into a cream is a nice lean alternative to full cream whipped
cream. Look at the ice cream you have and if you like to put
a dollop beside your slices, cakes, crèmes and tarts, make sure
it's low in sugar - the taste will still be there and it will be a
nice garnish.
