Seafood is always delicious. From raw to cooked, in pastas,
salads, soups etc. it's the seafood in each meal that adds the
special flavor.
Deep frying anything is obviously not the healthiest alternative
so we suggest grilling anything like fish and prawns. Also another
healthy lean seafood cooking alternative is to wrap fish into some
foil and put it in the oven for 20 minutes. Mixed together with
some garlic and some lemon slices - delicious!
You can tell when seafood is finished by the colors.
Prawns/shrimp, crabs, lobster and other crustaceans generally have
a red patterned appearance and the white flesh of the lean seafood
is no longer translucent and is completely white. Same with
scallops. However oysters are best eaten raw.
However, with fish it's when the flakes can easily be parted.
If having canned fish, like salmon and tuna, turn to the seafood
'in spring water' rather than being in oil. This will cut most of
the fat out of your meals!
A
delicious healthy seafood snack, if you like oysters, is to put
half a teaspoon of red caviar on the oysters, with a small squeeze
of lemon juice. a little bit of whipped cream does well with that
too (but that's not as much a lean seafood ;) ). If you're looking
to lose weight and eat healthy lean seafood, avoid the sauces and
stick to the fresh lemon juice. Although, if they're too tempting,
try to get the 99% fat free Thousand Island dressing instead of
the commercial full-of-fat version for your lean seafood meals.
